Frostings

The frostings listed on this page are the ones I use the most. My families favorite is the cream cheese.

You can add mini chocolate chips, mini m&m's, sprinkles or whatever strikes your fancy to give these frostings a more festive look.

Vanilla Frosting

* 1/4 cup butter or margarine
* 2 cups confectioners' sugar sifted
* 3 T. milk (approximately)
* 1-2 tsp vanilla

Cream butter or margine. Sift sugar; gradually add sugar until of creamy consistency. Add enough milk to make mixture of spreading consistency. Add vanilla & stir.

Makes enough for 13 x 9 cake.

This recipe can be doubled if necessary.

Cream Cheese Frosting:

* 1/2 cup melted butter
* 1 8-oz. pkg cream cheese, softened
* 2-3 tsp vanilla
* 1 1-lb box confectioners' sugar

Combine butter, cream cheese and vanilla, mixing well. Gradually add confectioners' sugar, beating until smooth. Spread on cooled cake.

Chocolate Frosting:

* 2/3 cup softened butter or margarine
* 1/2 tsp salt
* 6 cup sifted confectioners' sugar
* 1 egg yolk
* 3 1-oz. squares melted chocolate
* 1/2 cup milk
* 1 tsp vanilla

Beat butter with salt and 1 cup of the sugar. Stir in egg yolk and chocolate. Gradually beat in remaining 5 cups sugar. Add milk and vanilla, beating until smooth. Spread on cooled cake.
